At Margin, we believe your learning journey is deeply personal. That's why we've built our app with privacy at its core. This policy explains how we handle your information.

Our Privacy Philosophy

Your data stays on your device. Margin is designed with an on-device-first architecture. Your memories, transcripts, and AI-generated insights are processed and stored locally on your iPhone. We don't have access to your personal knowledge library.

Information We Collect

Information Stored On Your Device Only

The following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

• Memories and captures: All podcast moments you save, including audio clips, transcripts, and notes
• Listening behavior: Rewind patterns, playback speeds, and pause detection used for behavioral suggestions
• AI-generated content: Embeddings, connections, insights, archetypes, and synthesis results
• Transcripts: All speech-to-text processing happens on your device
• Review history: Your spaced repetition progress and mastery levels

Information We May Collect

We may collect limited information to provide and improve our service:

• Podcast feed data: When you subscribe to podcasts, we may fetch public RSS feed information to display episode details
• Crash reports: Anonymous crash data to help us fix bugs (you can opt out)
• Basic analytics: Anonymous usage patterns like feature adoption rates (you can opt out)

On-Device AI Processing

Margin uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models for AI features. This means:

• Semantic search and embeddings are generated locally
• Connection discovery happens entirely on your device
• Memory synthesis and question answering uses only local processing
• Listener archetype analysis is performed on-device
• No AI queries or results are sent to external servers

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework with encryption at rest. If you enable iCloud sync (optional), your data is protected by Apple's iCloud security measures and encryption.

Third-Party Services

Margin may interact with the following third-party services:

• Podcast RSS feeds: Public feeds from podcast publishers to display episode information
• Apple services: iCloud for optional sync, App Store for purchases, Siri for voice commands

Your Rights and Controls

You have full control over your data:

• Export: Export your entire memory library at any time
• Delete: Delete individual memories or your entire library
• Opt-out: Disable analytics and crash reporting in settings
• Local-only: Use Margin without any cloud sync

Children's Privacy

Margin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
